The snow is making its way down the mountains and hopefully the mountains decide to share with us so we can build snowmen, ski, snowboard, and snowshoe around. We can’t wait to soak up some of the sparkle and brightness snow can bring to our darker days.
So here it goes, round 14…
But first- a favorite recent patient quote:
“BEFORE I MET YOU, I HAD THE HORMONES OF A DUMPSTER DIVING RACCOON.”
(R)eading: If you are looking for a cozy mystery packed with some crime and humorous fiction, then The Impossible Fortune: A Thursday Murder Club Mystery, written by Richard Osman, should be added to your TBR pile. Actually, read it now (or start at the beginning of the series), Dr. O’Connell thinks it is that good. And- in case you need permission from us – it is more than okay to listen to a book if sitting down to read is not something you can make happen in your current life state.
(E)ating: We cannot recommend Winona Benson’s latest cookbook enough. Nourishing Alaska: Healthy Recipes from the Alaska Garden has beautiful photos, fun fonts and the paper feels top notch. We recently made the Winter Vegetable Soup recipe and feel it is a winner. It is warm, cinnamony and packed full of veggies and flavor.
The recipes are simple and the ingredients revolve around Alaskan living and produce, making nourishing our bodies more of a reality.
It would make for a great gift!
(P)laying: We highly recommend you set aside some time in your busy schedule to get outside in the crisp, cool air for a walk! There is a lot of pressure in our world to do crazy, high intensity things but the seasons are changing and some of our bodies are looking for gentler movement. Walking counts and matters.
If you have not had a walk-visit to the Coastal Trail or Kincaid Bluff Trail during a sunrise or sunset, we vote you do.
(O)bsessing: We have been obsessing over the views from our office when the days are sunny. It can pay to be on the 13th floor sometimes. We are the luckiest of floors.
(R)ecommending: We cannot recommend the importance of spending time outdoors in the sunlight enough and as the days are getting shorter and the darkness is lasting longer, this is a love nudge to remember to take your Vitamin D. If you are not sure where to begin with that, check in with your medical provider.
And- if you didn’t already know this, our bodies absorb Vitamin D a whole better through the foods we eat. Here are foods that are higher in Vitamin D than others:
- Fish
- Eggs
- Mushrooms
- Fortified Oats
- Cheese
- Whole milk
(T)reating: Date Better puts out really yummy treat options and does not need much hype. Don’t hesitate to order a few of the flavors that catch your eye and/or visit Johnny’s Produce in town, they often have some in stock.
