Issue No. 24

The real fall season is almost here.

So here it goes, round 24…

But first- a favorite recent patient quote:

“I AM SO GLAD I FOUND YOU GUYS!”

(R)eading: Life on Svalbard: Finding Home on a Remote Island Near the North Pole by Cecilia Blomdahl is a great read. Her photography is brilliant and the education she provides throughout the book is neat, too.

(E)ating: School started this month and time saving hacks seem to be even more important with drop offs, pick ups, sports and homework so here are a few tidbits to make the kitchen a more fun place to be:

  • Slice a whole pack of Costco onions and bell peppers, and then freeze them to easily add into stir frys, soups or breakfast burritos.
  • Slice up bananas, fruits and single layer leafy greens to have ready to go in the freezer for smoothies or add-ins for oatmeal.
  • Batch prep a couple protein sources (meat, tofu, beans, etc.) and carbohydrate sources (quinoa, rice, pasta, etc.) to have on hand to build a bowl to your liking. It is fun to play around with toppings and sauces throughout the week.
  • These energy balls are super easy, use up turning bananas and are great for a pick-me-up for humans of all ages.

(P)laying: The Muktuk Marston Memorial Trail is a dream this time of year.

(O)bsessing: We have been obsessing over the Portage Pizza Topper from Summit Spice & Tea Company. It is a game changer on homemade pizza crust.

(R)ecommending: We recommend applying to “Show Us Your Alaska” with DexaFit for the opportunity to get $40 off of any of their services.

(T)reating: Treat yourself to baking a batch of homemade cookies or brownies to have on hand for a sweet treat here and there (they can easily be frozen for safe keeping)! It might be a little fun to feel more connected with something yummy, knowing you made it.

Put on some comfy clothes, turn on your favorite tunes and have at it.

We hope your September has a few slower paced moments in it!
