Issue No. 5

The month of February has officially arrived.

It has not really been feeling like winter is happening in the great outdoors but love and chocolate are still here so that is a plus.

We are inches away from launching our wellness and longevity packages and cannot wait to share them with all of you.

Here goes it, round 5.

But first- a favorite recent patient quote:

““YOU SHOULD DO IT TODAY. YESTERDAY WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER.””

(R)eading: Dr. O has been reading and loving Herbal Medic: A Green Beret’s Guide to Emergency Medical Preparedness and Natural First Aid written by Sam Coffman. It is a great reference for herbal remedies and how different herbs work against fighting disease in the human body.

It should be known that Dr. O took a moment to come out of her office and show the book to anyone who was around; special dance moves included. Dr. O has a love for creating custom tinctures, balms and salves for her patients, and books like these continue to add helpful insight to her different recipes, recommended regimens and knowledge reservoirs.

(E)ating: We made one new soup a week during the month of January in hopes of making it seem more like winter. It was fun. Lisa’s Vegan Chili was one of the recipes and it was a hit at our Grand Opening; the chili was known as “the secret tucked away in the corner.” The tofu and lentils pair well together, and taking time to let all the food goods simmer longer than you would think is essential.

Check out this Instagram post for more details.

(P)laying: We have been trying to incorporate movement into our work days, especially at odd times of the day where we might otherwise choose to sit and veg out on our phones and then boom, it is time to be back at it with work again. Some of us have been kettlebell-ing at home and/or in between visits at the office, and some of us have been taking walks or making a visit to the Alaska Rock Gym for some climbing fun during our lunch break.

How could you add a little more movement into your day?
It does not have to be anything big or even fit under the “exercise” words list.

(O)bsessing: We have been obsessing over two things lately.

  1. We were gifted Organic Tart Cherries put out by Berrilys from one of our favorite integrative dentists in town, Dr. Owen Mandanas. Her practice, Mandanas Dental, is one of the best and we would highly recommend giving her office number a ring and scheduling an appointment.
  2. “Fridays are for soup!”

It really happened. We made one new soup recipe a week last month.  Give them a look over and try one out if you fancy it.

(R)ecommending: We recommend giving some journaling a try. The first month of the new year has come to a close but that doesn’t mean taking some time to slow down, reflect and reconnect with yourself has come to a close, too. Here are some journal prompts to try out if you feel like it:

  • “If you could choose one word to guide your year ahead, what would it be and why?”
  • “What am I grateful for today?”
  • “What did I learn today?”
  • “What did I do today that I am proud of?”
(T)reating: We vote you treat yourself to a punchcard from Turiya of Alaska for intentional, built in breathing room in your life. David Westlake is a gem of a human and he hosts a weekly community practice at Thrive Integrative Medicine on Saturday mornings from 9:30-10:45am.

Go give it a try.

We hope you have the best February ahead!

Tell someone you love that you love them, maybe even a little extra.
We know things have been feeling a little dreary.
